I knew Sam and Adrian’s wedding would be a beautiful one and it didn’t disappoint. We seem to share the same tastes in all things wedding and I was looking forward to photographing this one at Priston Mill, the venue of my own wedding three years ago. I started the day at the Hilton Hotel in Bath where Sam and her Bridesmaids were getting ready. The wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses were designed made by Sam’s sister and looked amazing – delicate and feminine with lots of lace – I have to say, I thought Sam made an absolutely stunning bride. At the venue Adrian welcomed guests into choir practise complete with choir master and a small ensemble. They practised the songs that were to be part of the ceremony, the popular Fleetwood Mac song ‘Everywhere’ and ‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers. This quick rehearsal paid off and the guests really got into the singing, big smiles on their faces throughout and lots of laughter too. I always look forward to the speeches at weddings, they reveal lots about each couple and Adrian’s speech was a delight. He’s a primary school teacher and had asked his class for their advice on his wedding day, he shared some of these nuggets of wisdom with his guests and they included “if you have an itch, try to scratch it without people noticing” and “when cutting the cake try not to scoff it” – solid advice for any groom on his wedding day and throughout life in fact, I think you’ll agree! Sam and Adrian, thank you so much for inviting me to document your big day, you make a great team and I wish you a ‘lovely day’ everyday of your lives together.
