My name is Ruth and I’m a designer and illustrator based in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire. Kristy has kindly invited me to be a guest blogger for June, while she is busy on maternity leave looking after her beautiful new baby.
Having studied for my degree in Graphic Design and Illustration at Bath Spa, I’ve worked as a freelance designer since 2007. The majority of my work is creating children’s activity and information books and I’ve been very lucky to work for some large publishers, including Franklin Watts and Tate Merchandising.
I’ve always had a passion for stationery and typography, and have been practicing my hand lettering skills for many years. After being asked to create several wedding invites for friends and family, I now offer a bespoke wedding stationery service to couples who are looking for something special for their big day. I’ve created a selection of quirky wedding and party invitations using a range of antique and modern fonts and hand drawn lettering, complemented by vintage floral designs or hand-drawn leaves and flower garlands.
My grandmother, Rachel, was a printmaker who specialised in letterpress greeting cards. When I started University, she handed down an extensive collection of Victorian display fonts and typographic books, giving me access to a rare collection of antique lettering. These fonts can be combined with antique floral illustrations or modern decorative prints to create a beautiful and unique design which your guests will treasure.
With options ranging from a simple one-page invitation card through to a full wedding stationery suite (invitation card, RSVP card, details slip, order of service, seating plan, menu and place cards), I can make something to suit most budgets. Please feel free to get in touch for a chat about your design ideas and inspirations. I will happily tailor the designs to suit your wedding decor, colour schemes and styles.
