Elena and Jonathan’s marvellous wedding at Wick Farm was a wonderful day which included some interesting Russian traditions. I arrived just before the ceremony to capture the guests arriving and poor Jonathan looking very nervous! Soon Elena and her father arrived and they waited outside whilst Jonathan had to pass a test created by the bridesmaids. In line with Russian traditions (but a more modern version) they set questions about Elena and their relationship history which Jonathan had to answer in front of the guests to win the right to marry Elena. Questions ranged from Elena’s eye colour to Jonathan having to say ‘I love you’ in several different languages then singing ‘Twinkle, twinkle, little star’ (poor guy was so embarrassed!) and even having to park a toy car in a tiny car parking space by just pulling it along with ribbon! Anyway, he sort of passed most of them so the ceremony went ahead… phew! I love photographing weddings with different traditions, it’s really interesting to get to know about them and the second tradition in this one was the parents feeding the Bride and Groom bread and salt to welcome them and also to decide who will hold the power in the marriage by the size of the bread they break off – only problem is if you break a huge piece you then have to eat it… before you sit down to the wedding breakfast. Jonathan won this one but it was quite amusing for all to watch him struggling to eat it. After some excellent speeches guests bopped the night away to music by The Moon Loungers.
