“Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again.” ― Henri Cartier-Bresson
When children know they are being photographed, one of two things happens – either they leap up, full of confidence and pull a face at the camera, or they hide away very shyly behind their daddy’s legs. That is why I will always try to capture them without them knowing and to do this I’ve got to be quick. I spot a situation like this one, a little lad playing with his action figures underneath a picnic table at a wedding. I quickly line up the shot, adjust my settings and click! Any hesitation usually results in me being spotted so speed is a must! I got down to ground level for this one and I really like the intimacy of this viewpoint, shooting under the picnic table at his level rather than shooting down on him.
