When Ben contacted me on Facebook to ask if I’d take some family portraits at a gathering to celebrate his Parent’s Wedding Anniversary I was keen to be involved, not only because I was flattered to be asked by Ben who knows his stuff when it comes to creative images (carving out an impressive career in the design industry) but also because I knew it would be a challenge. I’m so used to finding lovely outdoor locations for shoots which helps me have creative control over the outcome but this shoot would be at his parent’s house and I’d only get to see it on the actual day. No worries though, I worked with what was available (and what was available was actually quite good in terms of light and backdrops). I aimed for a mix of posed modern group shots and some natural reportage portraits. On a personal note it was lovely to witness this big family – parents, brothers, sisters-in-law and children x5 – all catching up in one place together, something that doesn’t happen too often due to distance.
